The Dachshund originated in Germany as a rabbit hunting dog and still retains his sporting attitude. He is friendly, affectionate and a good home protector. His size makes him a desirable house pet, although care should be taken with his diet as he has a tendency to gain weight. He is a devoted and obedient companion.
